Contemporary Justice Issues
There are many important social problems. Poverty, racism, sexism, sweatshops etc. the list goes on and on. It is important to do what we can to live a well rounded life that takes these things into consideration in the choices we make—what we eat, what we wear, what companies we support, as well as more direct responses—where we volunteer, what do we raise money for, what political actions do we take. In addition to those issues which have historically always been a problem, there are issues that are particularly notable today. The Aids epidemic in Africa is an immediate issue. Immigration in the US, how we treat, talk about and offer help to our sisters and brothers in search of a better life. It is important to know the principles of Catholic Social Teaching, know our Scriptural foundation for service and justice, to know the two aspects of Justice but after we know all this it is important that we look around our community, our country and our world to see where these ideas most poignantly apply today. How will we respond.
