HISTORY OF GOING BANANAS FOR JESUS

Going Bananas for Jesus was first held in the Diocese of Grand Island in 1987 in Scottsbluff. The expectation was of 200 participants was far exceeded by the 550 youth who showed up in spite of a blizzard outside. The following year, Kearney hosted Going Bananas for Jesus, welcoming 800 young people. Following that, North Platte, Grand Island and Scottsbluff all hosted events. Throughout the years, Going Bananas for Jesus has offered an excellent opportunity for youth of the Diocese of Grand Island to connect, make friends, learn about their faith, how to live it and to pray. We pray for its continued success. As we celebrated Going Bananas for Jesus 2007 in Kearney we celebrated 20 years of this exciting event happening in the diocese.  The next 20 years proves to be even more exciting than the first 20 years with the prayers and support of youth, those who work with them throughout the diocese and the countless volunteers who make these events happen locally.
