History of the Retreat In September 2007 the Diocese of Grand Island's Office of Youth and Young Adult Ministry and St. Ann’s Parish in Lexington co-sponsored the first ever Diocesan Young Adult Retreat in Spanish. Over fifty young adults ranging in age from 19 to 30 years old gathered throughout the weekend at Camp Comeca near Cozad for fun, prayer, celebration and learning. Topics ranged from God in the Community, Living a Christian Life and Discipleship. Young people came from Grand Island, Lexington, Cozad, Hastings and other towns from the area.
The idea came about when a group of young adults from Grand Island wanted to learn more about their faith and meet other Hispanic youth from around the area. They contacted St. Ann's Parish in Lexington this summer with the idea for a retreat. From there all the pieces started to come together. After the retreat so involved in planning said that the experience far exceeded her expectations and that she and her peers had a great time.
It was refreshing to see the great leadership skills and the deep faith that these young people had acquired through their families and local parish communities. It is our hope that this retreat acts as a spring board to enliven our response to the great young adults in our diocese. They are so gifted and talented. We should utilize them in everyway possible in our local parish communities.
