Staff Opportunities

Higher Ground II is for those young people who have attended Higher Ground, or who are graduating seniors from High School (even if they haven’t attended Higher Ground). A special application with an adult recommendation is required because of the greater maturity expected of the participants. The program is designed to give the participants skills and experiences which will enable them to better live a Christian lifestyle of discipleship and service.

Higher Ground II calls participants to a deeper experience of prayer, Scripture and community interaction. The intent of this program is to help youth discover that the Church needs their gifts and talents. They are encouraged to reflect on their call to fuller participation in their parish communities and challenged to greater global awareness.

Higher Ground II is held at Camp Norwesca near Chadron State Park. There are two consecutive sessions, beginning the last week in May (Memorial Day Weekend). Each week begins Sunday evening at 6:00 PM MDT and ends the following Friday at 11:00 AM MDT.

The cost of the week is $150. The non-refundable round-trip bus fare is an additional $80.

Refund Policy:

If, for some reason, you will not be able to attend, we will refund your fee, providing you notify us before the registration deadline for your particular week (16 days prior to the week).  If notice is not given before the registration deadline for your particular week, only $75 of your registration fee will be refunded.  Bus fees are not refundable after registration deadline passed.  If you do not show up for your week without contacting us before 5:00 p.m. on the Thursday before your week, no money can be refunded.  This is necessary because there will most likely be participants waiting in line in case someone cancels.  We do not want anyone to be deprived of the opportunity to experience HIGHER GROUND II.

Each week, a bus travels round-trip between Grand Island and Chadron, stopping along Highway 2 at predetermined locations.

Financial assistance is available on the basis of need, through the Office of Youth and Young Adult Ministry. Please check with your parish first before contacting us, as sometimes they have financial assistance available as well.  There is no financial assistance available for the bus fare through our office.

Higher Ground Retreats™, the Office of Youth and Young Adult Ministry, and the Diocese of Grand Island reserve the right to use photos and video of all participants and staff for marketing and publicity purposes.

*If you are trying to register after the deadline for a particular week, please contact us, and we will consider your registration based on space available at the retreat locations.
