The Diocese of Grand Island participates in an annual audit to assess compliance with the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops' Charter for the Protection of Children and Young People. The US bishops' Committee for the Protection of Children and Young People contracts with an external auditing company to conduct the audits, which include submission of data annually and site audits every three years. In addition to annual data submission, site audits include review of source documents and extensive interviews with Diocesan, parish, and school personnel from across the diocese. Dioceses have the option to participate in an onsite audit, in which auditors travel to the diocese, or a virtual site audit in which source documents are submitted electronically or via US Post and all interviews are conducted online. Reports documenting the results of these national audits are published annually and are available through the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops Secretariat for the Protection of Chidren and Young People at: https://www.usccb.org/offices/child-and-youth-protection/audits
The next site audit for the Diocese of Grand Island is scheduled for August 19-23, 2024.
